Have 8600 for 2+ years w/iMac 10.6.8 & Windows 7.0. This is 3rd time printing to iMac suddenly stopped, but Windows printing OK. Last time 1-year ago. Utility iMac messages say Magenta, Cyan and Yellow ,depleted, but they are more than 50% full. Black half full. R&Red the toner cartridges and they're heavy with fluid. Test printed "Clean Printheads", Print Quality Diagnostics and printed in black copies OK, colors a little grainy, but always are, even when full. I use Black 95% of time.
Downloaded newest H-P driver and intsalled, no printing, no change. Wireless connection good. Prints OK for H-P tests.
Meanwhile the Windows PC is printing fine to the 8600, no warnings. Bought, installed 3-color toners. Eliminated "depleted" warning, but still won't print to iMac.
Last time this no-print happened with the iMac, H-P replaced the printhead @ no cost (returned old one). Everything's been fine since until yesterday.
Have set print default to Best, Draft & Fast Draft, still no printing function. Paper drawer 1/2-full.
8600 sees and responds to H-P tests, but not to Print default of driver utility.

Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Close all applications.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
Restart the computer.
Reset the Printing System:
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Click the Apple icon and then click System Preferences.
Click Print & Fax.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system.
Then click the + sign to add the driver, highlight the printer. Then click on the Add button.
If the issue persists, then add the printer through the IP Protocol.
