ADF on Officejet 6700 Premium

HP Recommended
Officejet 6700 Premium
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When scanning documents via the ADF on my Officejet 6700 Premium the scan partially completes and then aborts. The document has only partially travelled through the release mechanism. I then have to physically release the document. I have cleaned the rollers with distilled water but this has not improved the  situation.

The device is  only about 18 months old and is not heavily used.

Any suggestions

Hello there! Welcome to the HP Community @Keithr1,

I read your post about the scanning issue you are experiencing with your Officejet 6700 as scans do not fully complete. I wanted to reply to you with some of my suggestions and input to help you out. I think the issue could be a power issue, and would suggest a reset (below), and then try making a copy from the front of the printer. If the copies work fine, then move on to trying a scan.

Turn the printer on.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the unit.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the unit.
If the printer does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.

Hope to hear from you!

Thanks for your help. It has seemed to improve the situation but am still getting the issue. eg I was scanning a 12 page document both sides, it scanned the the first 12 pages single sided and then having tried to scan the second sides it hung on the second document. This is very difficult to recover from as  if you continue to scan the second sides will be in the wrong order.

If power is the issue should I be connecting to a single power socket as opposed to a 6 way adapter?

Hi there Keither1!

Yes, try removing the adapter and plugging the printer in directly to the wall outlet to ensure the printer is receiving full power. Hopefully that does the trick!

Let me know what happens!:)

Hi

I'm afraid it hasn't real;ly improved things. I had a false dawn yesterday when a 12 page document scanned successfully but today it failed again. Very frustrating

Hi Keith,

Perhaps there is an internal problem in the unit. Besides having the printer replaced, I would suggest just trying a power reset before scanning larger jobs, as an inconvenience this may be. If you wish to see what your replacement options are, I will leave HP's contact information below for you.

Good luck!
