Ok, so a firmware solution is out. The PrinterShare software solution is clunky. You can print to a printer that is shared by a Mac or PC, but who wants to turn on their computer every time you want to print from on iOS device? Given that I and everyone else using iOS devices want to be able to print natively and directly to a wifi printer, there are only two solutions left. Either you buy a new AirPrint capable printer for a couple of hundred dollars or more, or you buy the Lantronix xPrintServer for $150.

xPrintServer is the solution I finaly chose. It works as advertised. Just plug it into your router, plug in the power cable, and it works instantly. Just about any network printer, wifi or not, is recognized by AirPrint. Just select your printer and print. So sweet!

We can still use 8500 A909g printer with iPad or iPhone or iPod. All we need to do is install HP iPrint app in iPad or iPhone or iPod and use it for printing, provided printer should be connected in wireless.

Regarding AirPrint, visit the following link for the supported printers as of now and how to use it:

Keep in mind that iPrint is an application that allows a user to print JPEGs and PDFs but does not allow the user to print nativley from within an application running on their iPhone, iPad, etc... Airprint actually functions like a print driver in that it works natively from within an application like Pages for example. The user can create a Pages document and then print it using Airprint and an Airprint compatible printer like any HP ePrint enabled device. Airprint allows the user to select page ranges, number of copies, duplexing (if available), etc.... Airprint is available by upgrading your mobile OS to the latest version which I believe is 4.2.
The iprint app works just fine if you are printing photos or PDFs residing on your device.

Hello Holly4554,
To be clear, there was an Officejet 8500 a909g and then a new Officejet 8500A e-AiO a910g.
Unfortunately, for the original Officejet 8500 a909g series, there will not be any firmware updates to enable ePrint or AirPrint compatible. Only the new "ePrint" or "e-all-in-one' models will be ePrint or AirPrint compatible.
