Officejet J3640 All In One

The inkwell area of my Officejet says it uses HP22 Tri-color and HP21 or 54 Black.  The HP website, Amazon, etc say the cartriges I purchased should fit.  I bought HP22 C9352A and HP21 C9351A.  They do not fit (not even close).  My J3640 has a sliding "shelf" in the ink area that you pull forward and set the cartridges into.  The new cartriges are vastly too large.

Can anyone help identify what really fits my J3640?  I suspect the issue may be the age of my machine.  Numbers in the bottom are CN82E5Z3DB and also 03102/POSTEL/2006 1408.  There are several other numbers but I do not know what they mean.  I suspect one of the numbers I listed here means the machine was made in 2006?  Were the cartriges smaller then?  Are cartridges for my machine still available?

I'm a little upset at being sent by several sites to the cartridges I purchased.  Opportunity for HP to clear up any confusion?  Thanks for the help!

Hi Areks,

Thank you for using HP products.

I have checked on OfficeJet J3640, this printer is using HP 21 (C9351A Black) and HP 22 (C9352A Tri-Color) ink cartridges. Below is the link for your reference.

You can check the physical different between your current cartridge and the cartridges that you have purchase. Please refer to the attached photo for things to take note.

Lastly you can contact HP contact center for more help and information.

Thanks, but this does not help.  HP 21 (C9351A Black) and HP 22 (C9352A Tri-Color) ink cartridges DO NOT fit my J3640.  The slots for the cartridges DO NOT look like the slots shown in the guide you sent me.  Again, I believe I may have an older model (2006) J3640 and hope to find cartridges that fit.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.
