Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

When the black ink ran out, I installed a new black cartridge (not a refilled cartidge). I am receiving the cartridge problem error: "Until cartridges are replaced, make sure the printer is turned on... One or more cartridges are missing or damaged." However, nothing is missing or damaged. I even replaced and put another new one in; the colored inks are all semi-full. I have tried cleaning as instructed and unplugging the back and replugging in. What is next?

  • When was the last time the printer was working fine?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?
