Officejet 4620
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

I just received a new-in-box Officejet 4620.  I tried setting it up but i am getting the error message "Cartridge is for older generation printer" while using the original setup cartridge that came with the printer.  i also tried installing a brand new HP cartridge (564) but then i get an error message telling me to insert the setup cartridge.  is there any way around this?

@barronpj

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Officejet 4620 printer. I understand that you are unable to setup the printer and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

  • Use only the setup cartridge to complete the printer setup.
  • Make sure the ink cartridges are correctly installed.
  • Clean the ink cartridge and printhead contacts.
  • Reset the printer.

Click here to refer the document and perform troubleshooting steps mentioned above to fix this issue.

Let me know how it goes.

I hope it helps and if you feel I have answered your question and concerns,

Please mark this post as a solution accepted and Kudos would also be appreciated.

Cheers.
