Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Have just purchased a new printer today and set it up.  Its working fine and is connected to my pc via wireless internet connection.  The only problem I have is that it wont print because there is a constant message on the screen saying "The cartridges are set to default print quality......" when I click OK as it asks me to do, it just stays put.  I have tried changing the print to black only but no change.  If I try to print, the printer cancels the printing because of the error.  How do I change the default settings please.  OfficeJet 3831

Hi! @welshery22, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you have issues printing from your printer, you are getting an error "The cartridges are set to default print quality".

Don't worry I'll to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Please try the steps recommended below.

* Remove cartridges from the printer
* Unplug unit while powered on
* Unplug another end of power cord from the direct wall outlet
* Wait 60 seconds
* While the printer is powered off: get a lint free cloth and clean water
* Wipe the electrical contacts of the cartridges and the matching contacts in the printer
* Dry the contacts off
* Plug printer back up for power
* Insert the cartridges after printer powers up and requests ink supplies

Let me know if this helps!

Have a pleasant day ahead! 🙂
