Just had a customer I sold this printer to last year call and report the same problem, I suggested he first try to update the firmware, waiting to hear if that helped.
You would think someone from HP would respond to your post.

Mine does the same thing.
On the phone with HP tech support. Apparently this is a "feature" of the printer.. called a the "fuser cleaning mode" used to cool down the fuser after printing. To which I responded that it is not very effcient. I'll be here until Christmas if a have to print a document of any size....

I am having this same issue now - but it appears to only be limited to certain types of print jobs.
If I print a normal letter document its ok.
If I print a 5x8 invitation card it cleans after each one.....TAKES FOREVER.
What gives???

I would try updating the firmware, as that is not expected behavior, unless the media is causing a need for cleaning.
I was a support engineer for HP.
If the advice resolved the situation, please mark it as a solution. Thank you.

I seriously doubt that so many people are having this problem because of software or paper. Because it is listed as a "cooling" issue, on a whim, I left the little door open where you access the RAM for the printer. Magically, it now hardly ever does the "cleaning" thing. It used to do it sometimes after every page, or every 4th page. In the past week, I can count maybe twice that is has done it. And I print ALOT of pages. I don't know if it is just a coincidence.... You guys try it and see. Just leave the little door open where you access the RAM. It might be holding in heat that is causing it to run the "cleaning/cooling" mode. All I know is it hardly does it now that I leave that door open.

Going on 11 days now. Almost NEVER does the dreaded "Cleaning" mode that it used to do every 4th page. All I know is what I know! All I did was open the door for the RAM. I SWEAR!
Try it and let us know!
