Same problem here. I wasted so much time trying to solve this. I’m totally stressed out. I’m ready to drive to Amsterdam to dump the printer on the doorstep of HP office. How stupid can you be as a company? I hope they send me a customer satisfaction survey soon.

Anyway, I need a new printer. Obviously it will not be an HP. I found a Brother DCP-L3550CDW. Anyone have experience with this?

@Bowdude1

Someone in an earlier post said they took theirs back to Costco somewhere.  And on the US website, it says they refund on most items.  You might want to try it and let everyone know what they say.  If they do take it back, maybe I will have to rejoin Costco!

I don't know about that model, but I just got a brother HL-L3270CDW for another purpose and it works well, I don't particularly like how their transfer film is wide open when you change toner on that unit and I really don't care for how brother makes you remove the drum to change the toner and is a nightmare for me with end users.  But Brother has not bricked a printer with a firmware update on me........and their support is responsive and reachable (even when out of warranty).

One of my contacts from HP has reached out to me requesting more information. Specifically, he would like the exact complete 49 error code you are seeing. Can anyone post that here please.

There is not a lot to see, but here is the link to a video that shows the error. (Earlier 49 error was at the same place).  I turned the printer on a couple of seconds before the video starts.

Thanks, I have sent them a link to your video, hopefully that was ok.

@Repairatrooper

Thanks for forwarding the link.  I sure hope it helps.  I and a lot of other people are upset with HP's response so far.

@Katherine73 I managed to get the serial number updated after downloading FileZilla to do the FTP transfer since Mac terminal no longer includes FTP support. Rather than using a terminal command as you had instructed, it allowed me to do a simple drag and drop. Seemed too simple, drag and drop, printer lit up, poof. Ran a config report on the printer to confirm the serial number took, and it did. Super easy once I got it all sorted out.

I also made sure that the printer was set to allow FTP printing using the local browser access as you had noted in another post. I'm not sure if that made a difference in this case or not, but good to know either way.

Thanks again for all of your assistance on this forum post. Other than the damage to the unneeded fax card (my own fault), this has been an easy repair and the printer is working completely normally again. Now to get HP to do something about it, too.

Same problem after firmware update. Is the solution to buy a new printer?
