I followed the directions and tried again, but it still did not work.  I just get a blank piece of paper.  What version of the widows printer drivers do you have? I just have whatever was in the Vista OS that was on my compuer when I bought it.  Have you updated your drivers before you loaded the patch?  If yes could you tell me where to get an updated version of version of the printer drivers.

Thanks.

Does the printer go through the motions of printing but the page is blank?  I would suggest trying a test page as follows:  turn on the printer.  With the printer ready press and hold the power button, and while holding the power button press and release the formfeed button four times quickly.  Next release the power button.  This will print a very rudimentary nozzle test pattern.  If this page is blank then the issue is likley that you have bad cartridges.  There are not updated drivers (other than the patch here).

Hi from North Norway !

My little used HP deskjet 710 still too good to throw away, but I thought I might have to,

luckily I found this fix and with some struggle managed to install the files

and the printer now works good as before I replaced my old machine.

Thanks a lot.

The patch available from the first post in this thread must be applied.  You will also need to make sure the USB-Parallel converter you have is supported by Windows 7 x64. The converters in these threads have been confirmed by users to work with Windows 7 x64.

I would suspect there may be some issues with the port you have selected of the settings.  Are there drivers for the serial-parallel adapter?  Have you set the proper baud rate for the converter?  Have you set the port in the printer properties to the appropriate COMn: port?

I do not have a solution for aligning the cartridges, although the default alignment is typically fine as the cartridges are made to rather tight tolerances.  To print a simple test page you can do the following:  turn on the printer.  With the printer on press and hold the power button.  While holding the power button press and release the formfeed button four times quickly, then release the power button.  This will print a simple nozzle pattern which can be used to verify the basic operation of the printer and the print cartridges.
