HP Envy 5540
Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)

I can not install the software for my new HP Envy 5540 printer on my pc.
My PC is an Acer Aspire with Vista 64.
The disc that came with printer will not take. And when I download driver software for vista 64, I get an error.
"The operating system on this computer is not supported"
Are there any suggestions for a solution?

@Dytti

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

As I understand the HP Envy 5540 driver isn't installing on your Acer Aspire,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you check if the printer supports windows vista? if you haven't, Click here to check.

If it's supported, did you try installing the driver using the internet instead as the disc isn't working?

Here's a few things you can do to install the driver:

Step 1: Change the AutoPlay settings in Windows

To start the installation process as soon as the software disc is inserted, make sure AutoPlay is enabled.

Step 2: Run the Setup file from the disc

If the disc does not start automatically, open the disc contents from File Explorer, and then open the Setup file.

Step 3: Copy the contents of the installation disc to the hard drive

If the printer software does not install from the installation disc, copy the contents of the disc to the hard drive, and then install the software.

Step 4: Check the installation disc and disc drive for damage

The computer disc drive might not be able to read the installation disc if it is dirty, or the disc drive might be broken. Clean the installation disc, and then check for damage.

Step 5: Order a new installation disc from HP

If the installation disc is damaged, order a new installation disc from the HP website.
