Envy 120
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I've looked at all the responses to this problem and none of them have worked.  You say to download "critical" updates.  I download it and it asks what  the i.p. address is on the front display of the printer.  The front display doesn't light up so I can't enter the ip address. Therefore I can't download the "critical" update.

This is my 2nd Envy product.

I am very frustrated.

Hi @HoldemPete,

Thank you for posting on HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand that you are experiencing issues with no display, Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern,

It might be a power issue or a hardware issue with the display.

Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Make sure there is no damage to the power cord.

The printer shouldn't be exposed to any electric or magnetic field.

Try another outlet in another room, just to rule that out.

If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, using this website

If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue, I would suggest this could be a printer hardware. I would recommend you contact our HP phone support for available service related options. If your product is out of warranty, please choose paid options to get the tech support number.

Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone numberCase number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.
