Envy 4522
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there,

I have an envy 4522.  Everytime i select to print a colour document in draft to save ink, my printer prints greyscale.  I try to change printer settings and there is no greyscale option in the advance printer setup.  Furthermore everytime i try to change back to print normal quality the printer continues to print in greyscale.

I have reinstalled my drivers several times and run the HP print doctor.  The driver re-install only fixes the problem until i change back to draft printing.  The pattern then repeats itself.  There seems to be a flaw somewhere with this/my software.

How on earth do i get my printer to print in draft colour.

The printer also prints fine from my ipad, this problem is only apparent on my laptop.

Regards

Jamie

Hello, @weenipper – Hope you are well 🙂

Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!

I see that you are having issues with the printer settings when you change to “draft” mode. Let’s first try the steps below to try and fix the issue:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL61222/mp-147801-1/EN4520_Basicx64_1122.exe to install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

That should help! But if you face issue then, check these settings:

  1. Go to Control panel - Devices and printers
  2. Right-click on your printer and choose Printing preferences.
  3. Look for “Advanced” option under print quality /layout tab.
  4. If there is the grayscale option available, make sure it is disabled.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Good luck 🙂
