Error 0x80070490, Error 0X8024200b - Windows 10 / Windows Update.

Hp Officejet Pro 8620
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

In Windows Update I am getting 2 seperate Error Codes for updating.

1: HP - Other hardware, Printer - Null Fax - HP Officejet Pro- Error 0X80070490

2: Hewlett-Packard - Other hardware, Printer = Null - HP Officejet Pro 8620 - Error 0X8024200b

I did updates at HP website after Windows 10 install. My printer is connected 'Network' not Wireless or USB. The updates when run state can't find printer? I have tried these updates from 2 different PC's running Windows 10 64bit on the same 'network', with the same results.

My printer functions properly. Instant Ink operates properly. But the updates continue to appear in Windows update and there is no seen way to either 'hide' the updates, remove or complete them.

Thank you.

Hi @Panther57,

I see that you are getting errors when Windows is updating. I would be happy to help you.

It looks like the Windows Updates are trying to install a preinstalled windows print driver and therefore causing the error.

If the printer is working already, the option would be to ignore the printer software updates or you can try these external resources, that have some advanced steps. This information was provided by my co-worker @midnight-anwrs.

One poster tried the Show or hide updates and it resolved their issue.

You can also give feedback to Microsoft and hopefully they will release an update to correct the feature in the operating system. You can learn how here; Updates and feedback.

Error 0x80070490, Error 0X8024200b - Windows 10 / Windows Update.

Microsoft update on Windows 10 Enterprise x64 machine (upgrade from Windows 7) gives the following errors:

There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help:

• Hewlett-Packard  - Other hardware, Printer - Null Print - HP Officejet Pro 8620 - Error 0x8024200

• HP - Other hardware, Printer - Null Fax - HP Officejet Pro 8620 - Error 0x80070490

Only solution I found is hiding the updates. I used this tool to do that:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

Good luck & Peace!

Hi@h12,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see that you are experiencing issues running the Windows Updates for the printer. I can help you.

Did you already try the steps in Message 2, show or hide the updates?
