Hello, @drocheadnua – Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Forums! I would glad to be of your assistance 🙂

I understand that your printer is asking for authorization while trying to print after a recent power outage. To assist you better I would like to know the following details:

  1. What is the printer model number?
  2. What is the operating system on your PC?
  3. What application are you trying to print from (MS Word, Excel, Adobe etc.)?

Also, I need to know whether the printer can make a "Photocopy" or not. Place a document face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

If the printer makes a good copy, try reinstalling the printer drivers and check.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Good luck 🙂

Hi
Many thanks for your reply.
I have just realised that the document was a PDF which was protected and hence it was that particular document I couldn't print rather than an issue with the printer
