Officejet 8040
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I've had the Officejet 8040 for about a year and it just started having loud grinding/slightly squeaking sounds with every print job.  I know you can't lubricate the mechanics, I've lightly wiped off parts but with no success.  I've tried different types of paper but with no success.

Not sure if there is a way to recalibrate to see if that might work (no clue how to do that) but wondered if anyone has any ideas or has experienced the same.  Many thanks.  John

Greetings @JRH4109

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that the printer is making a lot of noise.

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Are you using a surge protector to power the printer?

Recommend you to turn the printer off.

Disconnect the power cord.

Wait for a minute.

Connect the power cord of the printer directly to the wall outlet. (Without any surge protector.)

Turn the printer and check.

If the issue persists, please download the printer firmware from www.hp.com/drivers

Connect the printer to your computer using a USB cable and install the firmware update on the printer. Click here

If the issue persists, please contact our phone support for the service options available for your printer.
