Solved!

HP 564XL cartridge pack

HP Recommended

Where can I use the "photo" cartridge included in the 564XL package? It's too small to fit the black cartridge slot and isn't labeled as a "color".

Hi, you can only use the Photo cartridge if your printhead has space for 5 cartridges. More info in the link below

Thanks for the reply. I now understand. I wish I had read the package more carefully before buying. My printer takes 4 cartridges. Anyone need a free "photo" cartridge? 🙂

Hi

Try phoning HP Support and tell them you purchased the Photo in error...

Ciari, I certainly could attempt to get a replacement cartride by 'talking' with HP, but it's not that much $ involved and it was my mistake. Thanks again for the help. I've never posted on any board anywhere.  It feels good to ask and get an educated (and correct) response. I'll bet you're a very good employee!

I have the HP564XL cartridge that fits in the slot, no extra space on the sides....all of the colors work, but no black.  I've cleaned the printer head 3 times and realigned as directions suggest.

Now what?

@ MasterHP- I will need a little more information in order to help out. What model of printer do you have? Different printers have different troubleshooting steps to take to fix their issues. What symbol is on the XL black cartridge? Does it look like a bow tie? Is this cartridge a new HP cartridge or has it been refilled?

I have an HP Photosmart 5510 - the cartridge is an original HP and the symbol is not a bow tie.  The symbol matches the symbol on the printer where the black cartridge resides.  I have cleaned the heads 3 times and done the alignment.  I even purchased a regular 564 yesterday and it still does not print black.

If one has done all the steps listed in this document here, in addition to replacing the ink cartridge. One would be looking at product replacement as this is a hardware issue and the printhead for this machine is not a replaceable part.

If you are still in warranty, HP may replace the printer at no cost to you. I'll link the information to get in touch with them below. The link will take you to a form to fill out. Once you fill it out and it is processed, it will give you the printers warranty information, a case number, and the phone number to call.
