Thanks for accessing the HP Support Forums for extra support! I see that you are experiencing issues with the printer freezing up and pausing. I would be happy to help you.
It may be an issue with the network, you could try a direct USB cable to find out if it is a hardware issue with the printer or the network.
I would suggest updating the printer's firmware to see if that will help if you have another Mac running 10.8 or higher or possibly a PC since there isn't one available for 10.6 or 10.7. Just to get the firmware updated. Here is the link: HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g_n Firmware.
Where are the printer and the router located?
What is in between them? (wall, floor, cement floor, fridge)
