HP Easy Scan shows it's attached to an old and deleted printer and dies before I can change it.
I have an OfficeJet Pro 8715 attached to a Mac running OS 10.12.5

Hello, @TommyEddieL – Hope you are well 🙂

Allow me to welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

Going through your post, I see that you are facing issues while scanning using the HP Easy Scan. You need to install the MAC Sierra drivers for the printer to get this working. Follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • Uninstall the old printer drivers first. Follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2cKwLyC
  • Now run the Apple Software Update. Check here for steps: http://hp.care/2cNgw3C
  • Restart your computer and printer.
  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Now click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip to download and install the printer driver.
  • In the “Add printer” window, make sure you add the printer as mentioned below:
  1. Click the “Add button” (+).
  2. Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  3. Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck 🙂

Easy scan still shows the old, non-existant, printer

Hello, @TommyEddieL

While uninstalling the printer from your MAC, did you try uninstalling the old printer as well?

Also, try to uninstall the HP Easy Scan from MAC and then reinstall the same.

If the issue persists, open the HP Easy Scan and then click on the drop-down button near the Scanner - Select your printer from the list. If your printer is unavailable, select Browse for the scanner and then select your printer. Check http://bit.ly/2qnmcdr for assistance.

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!

Cheers 🙂
