HP Envy 5640
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm trying to setup my new HP Envy 5640. The printer is connected to wifi, the blue light is solid and I have the IP Address. I'm trying to connect to my laptop, but I'm getting the "unable to find printer" error even though I'm entering in the IP or the host name.

Both laptop and printer are connected to the internet, but won't connect to each other.

I was able to connect and print from my phone.

Hey there! @cakelynmichelle

I understand your printer is connected to Wi-Fi but it's not connecting to your PC.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Are your PC and printer connected to the same network?

Please try the steps recommended below.

Restart the computer, printer, and router to resolve any connectivity error states.
   NOTE:
The following steps temporarily disconnect network and Internet connections and require restarting your computer. Complete any tasks or downloads in progress before continuing.
Turn off the router by pressing the power button or disconnecting the power cord.
Turn off the printer, and then unplug any USB or Ethernet cables.
   NOTE:
When a USB or Ethernet cable is connected to the printer, the printer cannot connect wirelessly.
Close all running programs on your computer, and then shut down the computer.
Reconnect the power cord to the router, and then wait for the Internet activity light to display a normal connected status.
Turn on the printer.
Turn on the computer.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot printer does not maintain wireless connection issues.

If the issue still persists, please assign manual or static IP to your printer.

Let me know if this works!

Have a beautiful day ahead! 🙂

Thank you for responding. I am getting the same error, where after I put in the IP address, it says "unable to find printer." They are both on the same network, and the signal strength on the printer is good. Is there something else I need to do with my computer? I feel like I had this problem with my other printer as well, where the computer wouldn't recongize or connect to it.

.@cakelynmichelle, Thanks for your quick response and time.

I was indeed waiting for your response.

Have you disabled firewall on your PC?

Make sure your computer is connected to your network over 2.4GHz. NOTE: HP Printers are not compatible with 5.0 GHz networks. You may still be able to connect the printer to your network using other setup methods as long as your router also supports 2.4GHz (as most do). Please go to the section on Routers to learn more. Additional setup methods are shown on this page.

Try changing the router setting.

Change the channel settings to 11 and mode to B/G.

If you are not sure how to change these settings, please contact you internet service provider they should be able to help you in chaning the settings.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a beautifuld day ahead! 🙂
