I got a Laserjet Pro P1102W for a customer who needs to print invoices using a rather archaic application which apparently needs to print to a PCL5 or PCL6 printer. I can't get print jobs to go from this package to the printer; they just never print. Normal Windows print jobs work fine.

The PC is Windows 8 64-bit; I have installed the printer on wireless and on USB, on the main PC as well as on a 32-bit Windows 7 PC on the network, and no joy. The accounting package's jobs don't print.

Any ideas?

According to the specifications (see http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press_kits/2010/plugandprint/pdf/LaserJetProP1102w_3.30.10.pdf ), the LaserJet Pro P1102W is a host-based device.

This means that it doesn't understand any of the traditional Page Description Languages (PCL5, PCL XL, PostScript), and won't even understand plain text (it may give the impression of doing so until its buffers are full, after a page or so).

It needs an appropriate host-based driver, which (probably) generates some variant of the HP JetReady PDL.

Aargh, I missed that.

Thanks for spotting that. I guess I'll need to replace it with one that understands PCL.

I have a machine that I need to connect a printer. However I dont know if the printer that I have ( HP Laserjet Pro P1102W)

will work.  The supplier of the machine send me this message.

The printer must support PCL5 emulation language (or above such as PCL6 or variants such as PCL5e).

Can you please explain to me what does this mean?  What kind of HP printer will support the machine that I have.

Any help will do. Thank you.
