HP Office4500 has message "unable to copy, scan, or send faxes".

HP Officejet 4500 wireless "will not copy, scan, or send scans". (actual scrolling message on printer screen) I have tried every HP diagnostic tool and suggestion that I can find. I have the printer connected both wired (USB) and wireless. I CAN print from my computer to this printer, but nothing else. One HP tool determined that there is an "unknown document feeder problem"  I believe it's a physical problem on the printer such as the scan bulb, etc. but am not sure. I have seen the exact problem from others on several web sites. Help!
