HP Officejet 5600 All in One will not scan

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software that came with this device, but still get a message "No scan options--refer to device documentation" when I try to scan a document. Quite frustrating. I have read thru the user guide and can find no reference to this problem. I am operating Windows XP and want to save to My Documents or send scanned docs to email in Office 2007. Help! (And I am not a techie, so make it simple!)

If still unresolved, I would suggested if you uninstall software

and reinstall updated software you can download from the website..
