Re: HP Photosmart 6520 "printer assistant" will not run

Hello PC Wizard,

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop running Windows 8 with a HP Photosmart 7515 hooked up wirelessly.  I am experiencing the same problem with the Printer Assistant and have followed your suggested fix, which does (temporarily) fix the problem.

However,  a couple of days will pass after fixing the issue and I will click on HP Printer Assistant again and it will open up the Wordpad with all the gobbley-**bleep**.

Why does this keep happening even after applying your recommended fix??

Thanks for you assistance!

File association fix is only temporary.  Is there a permanent fix?  Using HP 6520 on windows 7, 64 bit OS

That did the trick! Between changing the incorrect file association (.hta files) and then a "string" error that this fixes, everything works fine now. Thank you ... I'm running Vista using a brand new SmartPrint e-6520

Fantastic! It worked! But... what exactly caused this error? I mean, when I first installed evenrything it worked flawlessly. But suddenly....

Yes, this solved the problem immediately.  Thanks very much.  I will check this site first for any further problems.  I can't see how to post as "accept as solution" it sure was.
