HP Photosmart C4180 All-in-One Error Message

My printer just stopped working in the middle of a job, and froze.  So, I unplugged it (because it wouldn't turn off), and when I replugged it in, I got a blue screen with an error message: 83C00020.  I've tried to unplug, and replug while pressing down on the on and ok buttons, but that didn't work.

A little bit of background - I just got my printer ink refilled, and the page that the printer stopped on had a huge ink blob on it (second time using the printer since the ink was refilled).

Anyone have suggestions on how to fix this??

(thanks)

Hi - First, I'd definitely recommend against using re-filled ink for exactly the reason you stated below.  In the end, it may end up costing you a lot more than you saved.  With that said, a couple of things to try.

- Unplug the power supply and the USB cable from the printer, like you've already done, but unplug the power supply from both the printer and the outlet/surge protector (this will reset the power module).  Wait 90 seconds.  Plug the power supply back into both the printer and directly into a wall outlet.

See if that makes a difference.  You might also try removing the cartridges and powering back on to see if you still get the blue screen.  In addition, you may want to try cleaning the contacts on the cartridges and in the carriage as specified in this document.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your quick response ... unfortunately, the error message is still there ... Is it possible that this malfunction of my printer was a direct cause of the refilled ink? If so, do the ink refilling places know this?
