HP Photosmart C7280
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am just looking for a solution to the bright lines that my scanner leaves on anything I try to scan or copy.I am not opposed to taking it apart to get to the scanner bar if necessary but don't want to if it won't change anything.strip that shows bright lines

This is a cropped portion of a scan I did and see the bright spots they appear straight down the centre of all my scans.

My printer is old I know this but I have only scanned about 50 documents in it's entire lifetime. I have a hard time believing that it is no longer any good in any case, I can't afford a new one and must make do with what I got any suggestions?

Hi @Gate420,

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I see from the post that you are having scan quality issues on your HP Photosmart Printer. Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern,

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Are you trying to scan using the Automatic Document Feeder or from the Flat Scan Bed?

Have you tried to clean the Scanner Flat Bed and the rollers for the ADF?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Let's start off by printing a document and check if that prints out well. If it prints, then it could be an issue with the scanner.

Fingerprints, smudges, dust, or debris on the scanner glass, under the scanner lid, or in the document feed slot can cause lines and color bands. Clean these parts with a soft, lint-free cloth sprayed with glass cleaner.

For more details, please follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Printers - Fixing Scan Quality Issues

If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue, I would personally suggest this could be a scanner hardware. I would recommend you contact our HP phone support for available service related options. If your product is out of warranty, please choose paid options to get the tech support number.

Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
