HP Printer drivers crash my notebook (blue screen)

I just received my HP Officejet 6100 today. After I finished installing the driver, my notebook suddenly crash and the blue screen appeared. It said something about too much memory dump. I am using Windows 7 64-bit. Before this, I've never have any problem with blue sceen before, and after I uninstalled the driver this problem stopped. But I still cannot use the printer. I tried restarting the computer and reinstalled the drivers several times and this problem appeared every time. I tried downloading the latest version of the drivers and it still crashed my computer. I tried both the set up for USB and for wireless, and got the same result. I've wasted half a day for this already.

I've copied and post the minidump file here:

Please help me with this problem. I really want to like this printer. Thank you in advance.

Solved!

HP Printer drivers crash my notebook (blue screen)

Hi,

While using the device over USB, make sure to unplug the USB cable from your PC, then plug it into a USB 2.0 port as the printer does not compatible with USB 3.0.

As you mentioned you also tried wireless connection, may the USB was still plugged during this time?

You may identify the port by its color, a USB 3.0 port will usually be Blue and may also include an SS Logo nearby.

Hope that may help,

Shlomi

Thanks. I think you may be right! Because after I reinstalled the driver again without connecting the USB, my computer didn't crash. However ALL of my ports are USB  3.0 - they have SS Logo nearby. Is there anyway I can overcome this? Buy a USB hub? Thank you once again.

HP Printer drivers crash my notebook (blue screen)

Hi,

The PC do have USB 2.0 ports as I can see by its manual.

You may find the product description within the following PDF on page 2, the port described as number 5 is a USB 2.0 port:

Hope that helps,

That is the port I plugged the USB cable to! But there is an SS sign on that and the ports position in my laptop doesn't look exactly like what you sent me.

OK. You got the wrong model. My model is Inspiron 14Z ultrabook - 5423

I looked at the manual, this model only have USB 3.0 Ports.

HP Printer drivers crash my notebook (blue screen)

Hi,

Let's try the following and let me know if that may work:

  1. Make sure to completely remove the USB cable from the printer and the computer.
  2. Reset the network settings by pressing and holding the Wireless and the cancel buttons. Keep the buttons pressed for three seconds.
  3. Turn the printer Off and then turn it On again.
  4. Make sure the PC connected to your network wirelessly.
  5. Enter Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right click the printer name and select Remove Device.
  6. On the computer desktop, click Start, select Programs or All Programs, click HP, select your printer name, and then click Printer Setup & Software.
  7. Click Connect a new printer and follow the steps on screen to configure the wireless connection using HP Auto Wireless (In order to avoids any USB usage during the wireless configuration.
  8. After that try using the device and follow for any change.

Regards,

Shlomi
