HP Smart revets settings back each time no template seems to be available.  What software is a suitable alternative as just gone onto Windows 11 and previously no problems prior to HP Smart install?

@Over66

Welcome to the HP User Community.

Printer Model:  Unknown

Operating System:  Windows 11

True - HP Smart is an application.

At this writing, beyond the "Shortcuts" option (formally "Tasks"), the app does not support creating and saving "Custom Shortcuts" (preferred templates).

Generally, the solution is to install and use the full driver printer software for the particular printer and OS version you are running.

Use Printing Preferences (to support printing) or HP Scan (to scan PDF / photos - images).

Both support Custom Shortcut setup and "preferred" selection.

Need more help?

Ask if you need help installing the driver software for a supported printer.

Do provide the printer model so we have an idea what to suggest...

Unfortunately, I have to second this opinion ("HP Smart is useless"). Every single time I open it, as well as on my Windows 11 and on my Windows 10 laptop it says "Print status unknown".  I can print, but I can't use the scanner function.

Yes, re-installing helps, but I don't want to do that every single time !  I also tried to download and install the full drivers package of my printer (HP OfficeJet 8012e), but the only option I got on https://support.hp.com/ is to download... HP Smart...

HP, please fix this !  The internet is full of this problem, but no solution...

Thank you very much,

Your concern is not related to whether the application supports custom shortcuts / presets.

The answer provided here is not meant as a response or solution to your concern.

I do see that you have added your comments to the end of others threads / questions.

If you wish to do so:

It might be helpful to start a new question so your concern is the focus of the issue.

Fully describe the issue as you understand it.

Details can help someone decide whether an answer can be provided.

For example,

Tell us when the problem started

Include how the printer is connected to the network

Indicate whether you are using a dual band network - if yes, then to which frequency (band) the printer is connected.

=======================================================================

Make sure the general prerequisites are met.

For example,

Printer firmware updated,

Windows Updates current,

Router updated, restarted, decent make, model, and new enough to handle your network.

Finally, save time for both sides:

Include what you have already tried to fix the problem on your own.
