Word from HP is that the problem has been acknowledged and the fix is coming out in UPD 6.0.

 

However UPD 6 isn't due out for at least a month, and no mention of a patch or workaround. Until 6.0 it looks like the only option is 5.8 or less.

To anyone who is experiencing this problem:

 

What server OS are you running?  Earlier in thread I saw that Server 2008 R2 was mentioned but my print servers are 2008 (not R2).

 

Also, is the printing delay happening for all users of those apps or just a subset of users? Intermittently or all the time?

 

I'm wondering how much testing I'll need to do with UPD 5.9 before determining whether or not the problem is present in my environment and moving onto a production roll out.

I think this problem is widespread wtih UPD 5.9. I have many teachers who have experienced these issues on a wide variety of HP printers using a wide variety of different computers, all runnning Win7

I have been working with HP support on this for the past several weeks. HP UPD 6.0 drivers were released yesterday that appear to fix this issue. In the release notes is this:

"User may experience long delays when printing from a point and print client when host and printer are on different subnets"

 

I am still testing the UPD 6.0 drivers and hope to switch my entire print server to these new drivers in the next three weeks. One caveat, UPD 6 drivers are only available in PCL6 and PS, no PCL5. I have LaserJet 1300n and 1320n printers that can only use PCL5 drivers. I will be rolling them back from UPD 5.9 to UPD 5.7. Note, as far as I know there is no UPD 5.8 driver for PCL5

I have a server 2012R2 printer server with this issue. I tried upgrading til the new UPD 6.0 driver, but unfortunately I am still experiencing the slow "Connecting to printer" dialog.

Did you use AutoUpgrade.exe to do the upgrade? This utility is provided by HP as part of their admin pack

I upgraded it manuelly first. I have then tried using the AutoUpgradeWizard.hta from the PARK - but unfortunately this issue is still there.
