HP2540 deskjet
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently moved from the UK to South Africa and in our container I brought our printer. HP2540. but I did not bring the printer cartridges with me as you cannot ship them in the printer, so we took them to the nearest recycling centre. In SA I tried to get printer cartridges. After much to and froing eventually the HP tehcnical support told me I would have to buy the SA cartridges (650) and then phone the call centre again to do the regionalization. At no point did they tell me that I needed the old deplted cartridges as well.

I acquired the new cartridges for R550 and put them in the printer. I have now spoken to HP technical support about 4 times today and they cannot do the regionalization. They told me I would have to take it to Ensure IT services for them to do it manually. So I took an hour out of my day to drive to Ensure for them to do the regionalization manually. Ensure told me they cannot do it without the UK cartridges.

So. Phoned HP technical services again. They cannot do it without the UK cartridges.

So, in order to save myself from an expensive footstool with R550 of ink in it I would like to buy the UK cartridges for shipment to SA so that I can resolve this regionalization issue.

However,  I cannot order the UK cartridges from the SA store and I cannot order the UK cartridges from the UK store as they do not ship to SA.

So. Can someone in HP globally resolve this issue? or should I just dump this printer and send HP an invoice for the cartridges plus a wasted trip to Springfield Park?

Dear HP,

The printer issue is totally unresolved a few weeks later.

1. Your HP Technical support team in South Africa told me they would be able to do the regionalization if I bought the SA cartridge (650). At no point did they tell me I had to have the UK cartridges.

2. I spent R550 on a new set of cartridges

3. I phone the tech support and they told me at that stage (after having opened the cartridges) that it is impossible without the UK cartridges.

4. HP South Africa refuse to supply me with a set of UK cartridges (301) to do the regionalization.

5. HP South Africa say that I shouldimport these cartridges myself from the UK. They are asking me to do a grey import from the UK to solve the problem. BUT the HP UK site will not ship to South Africa.

6. HP SA have offered  replacement refurbished unit for which I must pay R750 + VAT for an extended warranty and exchange this unit.

7. Today when I went to exchange the printers I found out that the other printer HP4675 does not take the same printer cartridges. So this will cost me another R500+ for new cartridges (652).

8. So now I will be in for an additional R1355 + R550 already spent on the cartridges. I am sure I can buy a new printer for less than this.

I do not  understand how a globl organisation cannot ship 2 ink cartridges from UK to South Africa (or China to South Africa actually) or refund me the money I spent on the ink cartridges and we can go our seperate ways.

Please can someone respond urgently.

Regards,

Paul
