HP Photosmart 6520
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

It tries to pull paper from the 8.5" x 11" paper tray, which I have emptied.  It tells me that it is out of paper and ignores the full photo tray.  I have told it to print a 4x6 picture from the the photo tray on HP Premium Plus Photo Paper, but it continues to try to pull the paper from the 8.5"x11" paper tray instead.

Hey there! @lynne39, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!

I understand you have issues printing photos from photo tray.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Have you tried checking using a different brand photo paper?

I have checked the printer specifications and it should support 8.5x11 paper size.

Please try the steps recommended below.

Adjust the paper settings in the print driver

Reload the paper that you were using when the issue occurred.
Return to the document that you were trying to print when the issue occurred.
Click File or click the Microsoft Office Button (), and then click Print.
Select your printer, and then click Properties or Printer Properties.
Click the Paper/Quality tab.
From the Paper Size drop-down list, select the option that matches your paper size. For example, if you have legal paper loaded in your printer, select Legal 8.5x14in.
From the Media drop-down list, select the paper type that matches the paper loaded in the printer.
Click OK, and then click OK again to apply the settings.
Click OK or Print from the Print dialog box to start the print job.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot out of paper issues.

Let me know how it goes!

Have a wonderful weekend ahead! 🙂
