My C6180 is several years old, but I would prefer not to buy a new printer if not absolutely necessary.  All of sudden, the Ink System Failure error appeared and I was unable to print.  I followed steps online that others had successfully taken and managed to clear the Ink System Failure, only to have it still appear.  Then, I found something else that suggested re-initiating the Ink Configuration System, which is apparently what I did.  Now, I have a message saying that I have the wrong cartridges installed and that I need to replace them with the introductory cartridges.  Obviously, I don't have these since this is a few years old.

Is there anything I can do short of buying a new printer?

Does this message stay on the screen and prevent printing, or does it go away if you press OK and let you print?

It stays on,and no functions will respond on printer.

There are only a couple of things I can think to try. First remove all of your inks and do a hard reset. Don't reinsert the inks until the printer asks you to. The instructions for a hard reset are below. If that doesn't work, remove all the cartridges again, and do a partial reset. Again, don't reinsert the inks until the printer asks for them, and the partial reset instructions are below. If that doesn't work, try doing the hard and partial resets with the inks in the printer. If none of that works, you will need to replace the printer.

To do a hard reset:
1. Make sure the printer is on.
2. Pull the power cord from the printer.
3. Pull the power cord from the wall.
4. Wait 30 seconds.
5. Plug the printer in and turn it on.

To do a partial reset:
1. Make sure the printer is on.
2. Pull the power cord from the printer.
3. Pull the power cord from the wall.
4. Wait 30 seconds.
5. Plug the power cord inot the wall, but do not plug in the printer.
6. Hold down the 3 and # buttons.
7. While holding the buttons, plug in the printer.
8. When the lights come on, let go of the buttons.

My C6180 isn't printing and recommends to install new inck cartridges(I've done that already); what else do you suggest I do?
