Installing genuine cartridge and getting error message

Photosmart A516

On replacing a genuine but empty cartridge with another genuine but brand new cartridge I ger the error message CARTRIDGE FAILED  PLEASE REPLACE THE CARTRIDGE

The printer was working perfectly until thie replacement.What can I do? 

All advice eagerly awaited

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! After reading your post I see that you are getting cartridge failed please replace the cartridge error message on HP Photosmart a516 printer. I would like to help you out with this issue today.

  • Remove, inspect, and reseat the print cartridge.
  • Clean the print cartridge and carriage contacts.
  • Repeat reseating and cleaning steps.
