LaserJet Pro M1217nfw non-functional after firmware upgrade

Hello,

LaserJet Pro M1217nfw connected via USB to MacBook Pro (non-retina,mid-2012) running OS X 10.7.5

[Already posted this three days ago but no solution -- hope the Experts will chime in... ]

A few days ago I downloaded and installed the latest HP software from http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL32660/Im-80903-6/LJM1130_M1210_MFP_Full_Solution.dmg

The installation went OK, then the installer asked to update the printer's firmware and I said yes. The firmware installer reported success, but now the printer won't initialise anymore. Upon startup it displays "Initializing..." with green (ready) and amber (attention) lights flashing, then LCD turns off, then "Initializing..." all over again, ad infinitum. Needless to say, neither the HP software nor the Firmware Utility see the device anymore, and in System Preferences it is listed as "offline".

What do I do? Is there a way to re-flash the original firmware? Is an updated firmware supposed to break things like this anyway?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi diefrosch,

I am looking to see if there's a reset available.  Haven't forgot about you.  I'll get back to you once I find and answer.

LaserJet Pro M1217nfw non-functional after firmware upgrade

Hello

Please try the following reset:

Press and hold [Cancel] and [Down] button,

•                  Press and hold the two buttons, then power on the device;

•                  Ready and Attn LEDs are blinking;

•                  Ready and Attn LEDs stop blinking, then release the two buttons;

•                  Device is initializing, all LEDs off;

•                  Ready and Attn LEDs remain off while is initialized, device continues power-on initialization with Ready and Attn LEDs blinking

•                  Initializing complete and Ready LED on

LaserJet Pro M1217nfw non-functional after firmware upgrade

Marels,

This is what I did:

Held down [Cancel] and [Right] buttons (there is no [Down] button on the M1217nfw)

Powered up the device

Ready light flashed and LCD displayed "Permanent storage init" (whatever that means)

Ready light stopped flashing and LCD asked "Language?"

Released buttons and proceeded with initial language and locale setup

LCD shows "Ready" -- printer works again!

Thanks and kudos to you and MBJustice for your personal commitment.

Yes, the solution that worked for me was to hold down the Cancel key and the Right Arrow simutaneously.  Thanks for the tip.

LaserJet Pro M1217nfw non-functional after firmware upgrade

Thank you, this worked for me as well. I'm in the middle of reinstalling all the HP software; maybe I didn't need to.

But then again, Windows 7 is so stupid, it started recognizing my printer as an internet access point (connecting automatically!), took me a bit to figure out why I couldn't access the 'net anymore. Of course, when I plugged the USB cable in to install the software, Windows tells me my printer is a USB mass storage device. How retarded is this OS, anyway? There are so many things about Windows that bugs the crap out of me and it's nice to see Mac users out there. I'm a Mac guy, but I know that if I did the HP install on my Mac the Windows machine would absolutely freak out. Okay, I feel better now. Thanks, all.
