Lots of people with similar problems--makes you wonder what HP were thinking.
Anyway mine is that my 1020 laserjet printer used to work fine on XP, now I can get it working on my laptop, which is a win7 32bit system, but cannot get it to work on my desktop, which is win7 x64. The software installs fine, printer is recognised, can even set options. But when I try to print I get a flashing green light and an interminable hang. The job is listed in the print jobs list, but doesn't go through. Clearly there is some problem with the driver; if anyone has found a workaround, or a fix for the driver, please do post. Otherwise HP please sort it out--it's now almost six weeks since the launch of an OS that was trumpted months in advance of its release; these sort of problems really should not be happening.
ps there are other posts on related issues (try searching "1020, win 7"), but they all seem to be people usingwin 7 32bit not 64. So a new post seemed appropriate.

I have Windows 7 64-bit and LJ1022 with out issue so far. LJ1022 uses the same software as the LJ1020 from what I can tell.The file I used is lj1020_1022-HB-pnp-win64-en.exe. Downloaded it here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloa

While the printer works well in the pc that is connected it will not play well when its share with different version meaning 32bit and 64bit i can not print anything in a laptop that has win7 32bit to a win7 64bit it just hangs the printer queue and your force to reboot the printer queue.

Hi, just though I'd say that I have pretty much the same problem, except that my pc with x64 W7 works fine but printing to a networked Lj1020 from my laptop with x86 W7 fails every time (doc sticks in the print queue and needs a Pc reboot to clear it). I spent an hour on-line to HP tech support before Christmas - they were very patient and we tried every trick in the book on both machines, but without success. They finally said they needed to do some work on the driver, so at least they know there is an issue out there!

Use this driver (it's just russian version of the driver) - and you're clear to print! =)

You can use the Add printer wizard to add this device to your win7 64 bit computer.
Click on Add printer
Add local printer
Use Existing Port - USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB) - if this port is in use, you can use another USB port.
Next Screen is Install printer driver - on the left select HP - on the right scroll down and select HP LaserJet 1020
Click Next (do not click windows update button)
Finish out wizard

Hi, thanks for the reply, i hope it will help others in my position, and there seem to be a lot of them looking at the forum. Its obviously not a simple solution or an easy one to figure out otherwise more people would done it.
Still thank you anyway, its a shame someone like you was not incharge of making sure this driver installation was not easier to do
