HI, my hp 8610  will print a document, and then displays "can't communicate with printer."  if I cancel the print job - through the message - I can print another document but th message is thrown on the screen again

Please provide the following relevant information so someone can help including:

Printer Model – done
Operating System of computer - done
Detailed Problem Description including all network devices (extenders, switches)-
Connection Method - USB, Hardwired LAN, Wireless, Wireless Direct? -
Make and model number of router(s) and modem? -
Error messages - on printer screen and/or computer, any blinking light patterns? –
Is the printer plugged directly into the wall outlet?  Do not use any UPS, power strip or surge protector.  Yes this WILL cause the printer to drop offline and print strangely.
Do you think the printer is going to sleep and can’t wake up? -
If wireless, when the problem occurs, what is the status of Blue Wireless light on the printer, on, off or blinking? –

Power off printer and router.  Power on router and wait 3 mins, power on printer.  Does it connect to the router now?  Do you have a valid IP address?

my hp 8610 is connected to PC by usb cable.  It is a simple home office connection.  It was attached to a UPS but I connected directly to wall and it still doesn't work.

It is not a wireless connection

IT is not going to sleep because, as I said, as soon as I cancel the " Can not connect..." message I can print another document, but the message immediately show up again.

also just found out I can't use the Scan option.  Again itis stating the computer can't connect to the printer

This has happened before. If I uninstall the software and re-install, the printer will work for a time (a month?) but then defaults back to this state.

And yes I did turn off both the pc and printer twice.

A simple search on google shows that this is a very common problem, so am hoping  that hp has identified the problem and has a fix at this point.

I did runthe HP print and scan doctor.  It gets to 99% and just freezes, so

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Allen
