HP Officejet 6500

I have been using my printer for years. This week I go to print and it doesn't print anything in black. I am getting gray in some of the printing but not constantly. I have cleaned the cartridges and reset the printer. I have checked my printer settings and everything looks good there too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @htmaguire,

Thanks for stopping by the HP community. A very good day to you. Smiley Happy I reviewed the post regarding the printer not printing in black. I will be delighted to assist you here. Smiley Happy

Superb description and stupendous diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. Smiley Happy You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you with it. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. Smiley Happy

First off, to assist you better, I would require more information regarding this.

  • Have you tried making a few copies in black directly from the printer?
  • Did you bypass power strips and connect the printer directly to the wall outlet?
  • Did you try with different cartridges?
  • Please let me know the operating system installed on the computer.

Please try these steps:

  • Please make a few copies in black directly from the printer. If it copies fine the issue is not hardware related.
  • If does copies in black then you will need to uninstall and reinstall the printer software based on the operating system.
  • If it does not copy in black, then please contact HP phone support to get the printer replaced or the cartridges could be faulty. Try with different cartridges and visit this link for further troubleshooting and perform all the prescribed steps if not tried already.
  • If the issue persists, then follow these steps for contacting HP phone support.
  •  Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number, Case number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.

  • Please keep me posted. I will keep a watch for your reply.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

Thank you Davidsmp.

I tried making a copy. Nothing. The ink cartridge has been replaced twice. Nothing. Unfortunately my warrenty has run out. I am able to print most things if I change the papter option to photo paper. I'm not sure why. I am using a MacBoork Air laptop.
