Please help before I throw this printer out the window!!

When I switch it on, it continually makes a noise like it's going to print but never does.  In order for it to stop, I have to unplug the power lead.  I sat here just now for 45 minutes whilst it went through the cycle.

The printer was not purchased recently, but has only just been out of the box and this is the first time I've tried to use it.

Any ideas?

Sorry looks like other have said the same thing about this printer here.

Should never power it off.  Let the printer go into sleep mode.  Every time you power the unit up it will want to perform some type of printhead maintenance.
