New Envy 5640 printer gives black cartridge error message

HP 5640
OS X

I just bought this (in Japan). I get the message "Remove and reinstall the indicated ink cartridge, making sure it is correctly installed, and then touch ok" for the BLACK cartridge.  I was able to print in blue with the colour for alignment, but this messge won't go away. i see this is common if I look on the Internet. But why. I did not even touch the foil after removing the cartridge? have I got a lemon?   I need this printer to work this weekend as I had to replace a C110 premium due to bad rollers.   Can anyone help?  Thanks!

Thank you.

It was helpful. I called the office and they sent new ink. It seems to have been that!
