HP Officejet pro 8600
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

A generic Printer Failure message "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on.  If problem persists, contact HP" comes up when i replaced my old black ink cartridge with a new HP cartridge.  I've tried turning it off and on. Unplugging it for some time.Unistalling and reinstalling software on computer.  I've exchanged new cartridge for another new HP cartridge and same message appears.  If I put old HP cartridge in, printer says it needs replaced but atleast I can use the scanner with old cartridge installed or no cartridge.  When new cartridge is installed, I can't get past error screen to scan or do any fuction with printer.  Any advise is much appreciated as printer is past warranty. Thanks!

As I understand you are getting printer failure error message after installing the new cartridges on your HP Officejet printer. Don't worry as I have a few steps which should help you to resolve the issue,

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, Click here: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL40120/bi-108858-4/OJ8600_1315-1.exe
