HP Deskjet 1512

We have a Deskjet 1512 printer that we haven't printed with in almost a year because we couldn't afford ink. We purchased some ink this afternoon and put it into the printer. It printed what we thought was a test page, but didn't realize it was an alignment page. We didn't finish the alignment test but went right to the document we wanted to print. At this point, we were told that there was a paper jam. We've done all of the recommended troubleshooting tips and it hasn't helped. We haven't been able to clear away the jam warning, so now we can't print. Are there any suggestions on how to fix this?

Update: We tried using the scanner and it said that it was currently in use. I'm sure that it has something to do with the interrupted alignment, but now we can't do anything with it.

Hello, @ValEarl – Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a great location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

I see that you are having issues with the Deskjet 1512 printer. I’d suggest the steps listed below to perform a power drain on the printer. Here are the steps:

  • Remove the cartridges from the printer.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle and then insert the cartridges.

If the printer proceeds to alignment, please complete the step and then try making a copy to check the printer functionality.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Cheers 🙂

Thank you for the advice, but it did not work. I followed step-by-step what you suggested, and the paper jam light is still blinking, and it still won't scan. Did I mention that it also won't turn off?

Hello, @ValEarl

This looks like a hardware issue with the printer. Please contact the HP phone to get the printer serviced or for further assistance.

You can visit http://www.support.hp.com/contact-hp and fill in your product details to get the tech support number.

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help!

Good luck 🙂
