Using the workaround I can get it to scan via Preview, but can't do anything with the scanned document - can't open it, send it to e-mail etc. Any ideas? Thanks

Is your printer Ethernet capable? I was in the same boat as you, but luckily my HP Photosmart C6250 was ethernet capable, so when I connected it to my network I pulled it up in Safari. Then in the left column I could select >Applications >Webscan which is a web based scanner. I aslo had to turn off pop-up blocker to actually scan the document. Then you can right click the scanned document to save it to your computer.
Hopefully this will work for you as well. Good luck.

We are working on them. Several have been posted to HP.com as of this morning. Please check on HP.com for your printer software to see if your's has been part of the first batch published.

I don't. I know they are working on posting them in batches, breaking the list up into manageable chunks. If it isn't there now, it may post in the next couple of days.

i have a photosmart 6380. two different macbook pros. both running mavericks. scanning worked on both machines before mavericks upgrade.
looked for hp mavericks driver. went to software update. no joy.
went to hp driver update. no joy.
tried alternate scanning using preview. can't get the scan to save.
tried all above on different macbook pro. no joy.
at a loss. what's next?

I tried the preview work around, but my "preview" does not highlight "import from scanner". I have the Photosmart C8180 all in one and recently installed the OS Maverick software. Is there another work around, or is there something I can do with preview? thanks.
