Ofcjet Pro 8600 Magenta is out I have put in 2 brand new ones but it keeps saying they are depleted

My HP Officejet 8600 printer is telling me the cartridge for Magenta is depleted.  I changed out the old with a new one, I'm still getting the same message.  I changed the new one out with another new cartridge and I'm still getting the same message.  I cannot print in grayscale or black.  I can't print at all. 

 

What would cause the error message to appear when a new cartridge is put in (twice)?  How do I fix the printer?

Well...firstly, update the firmware of printer:

 

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus/Premium e-All-in-One Printer - N911g/n Firmware Update

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/OJP8600_N911g-n_R1545A.exe

 

After the update, restart the printer and test again.
