Officeject 6600 stuck in 'starting fax' WILL NOT FAX

HP Recommended
Officejet 6600

The fax machine will not pick up the phone line to fax.

It says 'starting fax' but nothing happens, nothing is engaged, no phone line, nothing.

As advised in a previous thread, power cord was disconnected from and ON fax machine.  Then wall power was disconnected.

I left it this way overnight.

Problem not solved.

Please help.

Hello, @Cabinhope – Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a great location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

I understand that you are getting issues while faxing using the Officejet printer. Do not worry, I’m here to help 🙂

Let’s start by running a fax test on the printer. Follow the steps below:

  1. On the Fax Setup menu, touch the Down Arrow (), and then touch Fax Tools.

  2. Touch the Down Arrow (), and then touch Run Fax Test. The product displays the status of the test, and then prints a report.

  3. Wait while the product prints the Fax Test Report.

  4. Review the report.

    • If the report indicates the product passed the test and you still have problems faxing, check the fax settings listed in the report to make sure that the settings are correct. A blank or incorrect fax setting can cause problems with faxing.

    • If the report indicates the product failed the test, review the report for more information about fixing the problem.

You can get the detailed fax setup information here: http://hp.care/2qGJ9rn

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!
Good luck 🙂
