Officejet 4500 continuously goes offline

Has anyone recieved a fairly simple solution to this problem.  My 4500 goes offline when the printer goes in power saving mode and I need to unplug and reconnect power cord to re-establish wireless connectivity.  I can't have my kids following complex methods when this should be working without intervention.

This is an HP forum, can HP chime in?

Have you tried my solution?  Check page 2 of this thread -- my posts from July 2011.  Simple and permanent fix for me.  I sometimes go months w/o printing anything -- and the printer is ready to go when I finally do.

Thanks for the reply!
I sort of tried. I couldn't find the DHCP range of my D-Link router, so I set to the IP to something that another person with a D-Link and this horrid printer set to (192.168.0.10) but it couldn't connect to the network after that at all.

Ah.  That's good (b/c my solution will prob work for you).  Try the following:

--Restore the printer to DHCP and reboot your computer.

--Print out a diagnostics page.

[There are many other ways to find out your router's IP settings.  If you know one, skip the above two steps.]

--Let's say that the printer is now on 192.168.0.107.

--See if you can Google up your router's default DHCP range.  Or, better, if you have access to the router's administration page, go in and find the range.

--The good news is that the default DHCP range will prob be significantly lower than 255.  So, using the example from above of 192.168.0.107, choose 192.168.0.253 for the printer's static IP.  You may have bad luck and collide w/ something else, but I doubt it.

--My guesses for why 192.168.0.10 didn't work for you: your router is not on 192.168.0 or .10 is already in use.  But, just guesses.

Let me know how you make out.  If what I wrote doesn't help you, just ask this question on a D-Link support forum: "How do I select a static IP address for my printer?  Someone on an HP forum said that I want to pick an IP address outside of my router's DHCP range, e.g. 192.168.1.253."

^^^ I should have said reboot the *router*, wait a minute, then reboot your computer.  [The computer reboot step may not be necessary.  But, it can't hurt.]
