Officejet 6700 loses wired connection to computer

Since alowing recent update to run on HP Officejet 6700, I am constantly losing wired connection to computer (Windows XP). It will fix on restart of printer. I have made the IP address fixed but this has not resolved the issue.

I noticed that you are losing wireless connection with your HP Officejet 6700 printer, on Windows XP. I am happy to look into this issue for you!

Please start by trying a hard reset, by following the instructions in this post, How to perform a Hard Reset, by @Rich1. It is important that the printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, and not a surge protector.

Then, double-check that the firmware on the printer is up-to-date. Getting Printer Updates.

The following tips can help prevent wireless connection issues:

Move the printer and the computer or access point (router) closer together.
Remove any metal objects between the printer and the computer or access point (router). Objects such as refrigerators or metal bookcases can interfere with wireless transmission.
Move any device that emits radio signals farther away from the printer. Devices such as microwaves and cordless telephones can interfere with wireless transmission.
Consult the router manufacturer for updates and configuration of your router.
Make sure that your computer is not connected through a VPN. You cannot access your printer on your wireless network while connected to a VPN.

It is a WIRED connection that is being lost since the update. I have reinstalled the printer and will not do any updates in future and I think that has solved my problem. At least I have made it thru 24 hours since reinstalling and have not lost connection yet.
