Officejet Pro 8600 Plus won't print cardstock

I have had so much success with HP printers, I never even thought to look into a different brand when my HP 8500 tumbled off a shelf from an unfortuante office cleaning.  I could print duplex, envelopes, card stock, stamps, labels - it was awesome.

I now have an 8600 and I am close to tossing this thing in the pond and checking myself into an institution.

I DID find another 'trick' that is keeping me slightly sane.  This only seems like a doable solution if you haven't already wasted an entire night trying to get just a few cardstock pages to print.

I have found that if I push the back paper guide in about 1/4 inch and let the card stock hang over the edge of the side that is insterted into the printer, then I can get it to print.  I have only tried about 5-6 pages at a time with success.  I am a little nervous trying to push it to 10 or pages.

Good luck to you all!

This trick works sometimes....

Grab a few 1" thick books off the shelf.  Lift up front edge of printer so it's tilted back at about a 15-20 degree angle. Stack books under tray to hold printer at the optimal angle (make sure you don't slide printer off the table). Gravity seems to "help" feed the card stock.  You may have to experiment with the right angle.

It's a ridiculous work-around but you've probably tried all the other options by now.

I am amazed, but it wokrs. Pathetic solution, but I tried all the rest and this is the only one that worked. Aby chance an HP person will put a rational soulution on the forum?

If you troubleshoot the cardstock issue it won't even recognize the word "cardstock"

Have your checked your Printer Properties to see if cardstock is listed as a printer paper option? I have a Photosmart 6520 and have had two replacement printers under warranty because I experienced printer problems after trying to print on cardstock. I typically don't change the paper type options because i never did on my previous HP printer a B209 that printed cardstock without any problems.

After my replacement printer arrived and I tried to print cardstock it sounded like it was chewing up nails. Then it struck me......and I looked at the paper type options in Printer Properties. Different paper types were listed such as plain paper, greeting card matte, greeting card glossy, a number of photo paper types etc; but no card stock was listed So I guess my Photosmart wasn't designed to print card stock. May not hurt to check if yours is the same.

I found a ridculous solution.  Besides all the settings mentioned, take a pencil erasor, and erase the spot on the back of your stock, at the top center where the printer grabs the paper.  Erasing it will remove any slickness, giving it a rough surface, and the printer will grab it.  It's working for me  FINALLY !

Don't know how you discovered that little trick but what an ingenious solution.
