Mega nz links do still work. Uloz to link to zip without netcat works to. Problem may be netcat considered a hack tool, not the firmware file per se.

Btw any hacker who could rev engineer the fw versions to make a proof of intentionally introducing code rejecting no genuine, gen1/gen2 chip cartridges?

When I download the downgrade file. It says file is corrupt

Moderators,

Do you have an answer for us all here on this forum in response to allowing us to use non-HP ink cartridges on our HP printers?  Your firmware upgrade (1547) stopped many of our printers from printing saying our ink cartridges are damaged when they have been working fine.  Many of us believed our printers were disabled from firmware updates when they disabled automatic updates and web services.  But when you go into the Support Menu it says Web Services are still enabled.  Telling us we can only use HP ink in HP printers is like saying you can only use Motorcraft Oil in Ford cars.  This is unfair trade and discrimination against other small businesses and do-it-yourselfers.  I'm asking for a response to all of us having this problem with your printers.

HP has crossed so many lines with their customers at this point. I believe it to be irrepairable. Currently JARBO is sending me out replacement cartridges with new chips that will be current and compatable.  I had been a loyal customer, buying multiple large ticket hardware items over the years. I will not be replacing any of these with HP again. The cartridge market obviously needs to be adjusted. It is not cost prohibitive or relative to production costs with the propietary sales of these things. It doesn't make sense to charge more for a consumable than it does for the hardware, unless you want to just start selling throw away printers. When they run out of ink, that's it, toss it.  Yesterday, they even went as far as denying me access to this thread. I had to reestablish my account. NOT COOL HP!!!!

OK, who do you think has modified the threads on this board that link to the firmware downgrade sites - right - the moderators

And who do you think has crippled the sites that have carried the software for firmware downgrading - right - HP

There is no limit to the extent HP will go to in this fight, using their own employees and other agents.

I can't prove this, but who else would do it?

HP has lost a class action suit a couple of years ago for unfair practices on their inkjet printer cartridges.

See - https://www.hpinkjetprintersettlement.com/

This is really just the same kind of unfair business practice.

Others have written about their practices as well.

See - http://askbobrankin.com/hp_playing_dirty_tricks.html

I encourage everyone to work at getting the message out any way you can - social media, etc.

I don't think there's a prayer of changing HP's mind but perhaps they will lose some profit in the process.

In the mean time, anyone who can try to re-host the formware downgrade links.

The YouTube group promise to put up an English version of their video.

That will help the 8610 folks.

We need a new link for the 8620 folks.

In the meantime I now turn my printer off when not in use.

I limit my router's access to it to a 15 minute block one day a week.

During that time I'm sure to turn it off as well.

Disabling autoupdate and EWS won't do it.

They are in for a fight here.

Let's roll.

Here is how I enabled my HP 8620 to continue printing with my ink cartridges that are not damaged.  Download the 4 files at this link and follow the info in Read_Me.  Note sure what other printer models this fix works with.  If my link is blocked then you might be able to search for the solution.

Looks like the nc executable is not in that Dropbox set....

DrRonski, I dropped the files into a zip file to facilitate download.

The problem with the nc.exe executable put into ZIP on the sharing sites is that very quickly either the sharing site antivirus itself, or some random user complains that the file contains malware (=netcat) and the link gets removed.

So it's safer to have a package without netcat and download that separately (and whitelist that file on your antivirus/anti-malware app.)
