Officejet all-in-one 6960
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I set up the all in one as instructed. Checked the fax test all passed.Have tried to send to several different fax nos. The fax finds the distant nachine, I hear ringtone and dialling but the fax fails to connect and returns an error report "388*"

Have tried all the fixes that I could find, reinstalling,  checking cables,  reducing speed, turning off  ECM still no joy.

Can anyone help please

Hi! @Dencaz, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you have fax issues with your printer and you are getting error report 388.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Please try the steps recommended below.

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the
Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).
2. Touch Printer Maintenance.
3. Touch Restore.
4. Touch Restore Factory Defaults.
A message appears stating that the factory defaults will be restored.
5. Touch Continue.

Refer the printer user guide for more information.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

@Dencaz, Thanks for your response and time.

As you mentioned even after performing the factory reset the issue still persists.

Test  Your HP Fax Machine with the HP Fax Test Service.

Refer this article to know more information about using HP fax test service.

Also, try performing a semi full reset on your printer and check if it helps.

Since the steps to perform semi full reset is confidential I will send you the steps in a private message, please watch your inbox for more information.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂
