Just out of the box and plugged in, after picking English and USA and Self Managed, the display is stuck on "checking cartridges..." and has a circle going around and around.  I haven't even installed the cartridges, the carriage is pinned to the right.  I've tried turning off and turning back on the power, plugging and unplugging the power cord.

It's now been about 30 minutes and I don't find it too amusing at this point.

Anyone have some ideas to reset?

Hi! @ScottPMA, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!

I understand your printer is stuck at checking cartridges during setup.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Restore the printer to the original factory defaults

Please try the steps recommended below.

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the
Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).
2. Touch Printer Maintenance.
3. Touch Restore.
4. Touch Restore Factory Defaults.
A message appears stating that the factory defaults will be restored.
5. Touch Restore.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot Ink System Failure on your printer.

Let me know how it goes!

Have a beautiful day ahead! 🙂
